Different Shots in Pickleball: Bruce Seidman

DROP SHOT IS BEST!

• 3rd shot drop

• Instead of hitting the ball hard, try to hit it so it lands just over the net and

bounces in the kitchen

Returning Serve:

• No slices

• Drive ball to their baseline (don’t hit it OUT)

• Hit ball FLAT (then learn to hit ball with SLIGHT TOP SPIN)

No painting lines:

• stay up the middle

• the middle is always best – low risk of going out

• the middle creates confusion as to who will take the shot

SLICE:

• Use slice on serve once you MASTER that serve

• Use slice occasionally to MIX UP your shots:

• Front Slice

• Back Slice

OVERHEADS:

• Trace flight of ball with index finger (just like in tennis)

• No wrist whatsoever!

• PUSH shot – not a lot of paddle movement (keep paddle stiff)

• DEPENDS on where you are on the court:

o Near the kitchen line, YES to overhead

o In No Man’s Land, NO to overhead
